The Pearl of the Rhodopes
Chepelare is located in the heart of the Rhodopes, at about 1100 meters above sea level. The area is surrounded by dense pine forests and offers crystal-clear air and silence – an ideal place for mountain tourism and relaxation.

The hometown of Ekaterina Dafovska
Chepelare is the hometown of Ekaterina Dafovska, Bulgaria’s first and only Olympic champion in winter sports. She won a gold medal in biathlon at the Winter Olympic Games in Nagano (1998). The town is proud of her, and Chepelare has a Sports Museum dedicated to her and other Rhodope athletes.

The longest ski run in Bulgaria
In the area of the Mechi Chal ski center, located just 1.5 km from the town, is the longest ski run in Bulgaria – about 5 km. The slopes are suitable for both beginners and advanced skiers.

Karst formations and caves
The region has many natural landmarks, including the Wonderful Bridges cave, located not far from Chepelare – these are unique natural rock arches created by water erosion.

Museum of Rhodope Karst
Chepelare houses the only museum of Rhodope karst in Bulgaria, dedicated to karst formations, caves, and the underground world of the Rhodopes. It is extremely interesting for people interested in geology and speleology.

Chepelare is a great starting point for hiking, cycling, and eco-tourism. Nearby are Mechi Chal peak, the Smolyan Lakes, and Perelik peak – the highest in the Rhodopes.
