The History of Bulgarian Cities​

Iskar, Yantra, and Rusenski Lom rivers. With the rise of agriculture and crafts, Thrace became the heart of early civilization in the region.
The Thracians founded cities such as Plovdiv (Pulpudeva), Sofia (Serdica), Yambol (Kabyle), and Stara Zagora (Vereya). Later, Greek colonies like Varna (Odessos), Sozopol (Apollonia), and Nessebar (Mesambria) flourished along the Black Sea coast, followed by Roman forts and roads along the Danube and the Balkan passes — Ruse (Sexaginta Prista), Vidin (Bononia), and Lovech (Melta).

During the First and Second Bulgarian Empires, new centers such as Pliska, Veliki Preslav, and Veliko Tarnovo became symbols of Bulgarian statehood and culture.
